About Me

 Hello, all!

I am an education major, so it seems fitting to talk about my education first. 

    I was originally going to pursue an English Lit degree. Although I love all things literature, I decided to focus on literacy instead and go for education. I have another blog where I geek out over literature and whatever else tickles my fancy at that moment. You can read that content here bookhideaway.blogspot.com. 

    First and foremost my name is Skyla. I am a proud Roane State Community College alumni. I am currently a student at Tennessee Technological University. I'm majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in English as a Second Language (ESL). I am also currently pursuing my Master's in Curriculum which I hope to finish summer 2024. It's easy to say that this keeps me very busy. 

    When I am not pursuing higher education, I am an education intern with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science Education (ORISE). I work on a plethora of projects, but one of the main things I focus on is ORISE competitions. We provide both students and teacher competitions. I've provided the links to each below.

We also edit the winning lesson plans from teacher competitions in order to make them as practical and usable as possible. The idea behind each lesson plan is that teachers should be able to print out a lesson plan and know what they are supposed to do right off the bat. No prep or study needed (although highly suggested). Check out the link for these below:

    When I am not doing school or working, I have several hobbies that I love. I enjoy reading. I mainly read fiction including classics, YA, contemporary romance/fiction, adult fiction, historical fiction, etc. I also like reading books about historical figures, psychology, and neuroscience. I regularly exercise, practicing yoga, Pilates, and cardio. I listen to music; there is no rhyme or reason to why I like the music I do. My motto is if it sounds good to you, listen to it. I'm an old soul, so I must partake in some sort of grandma activity which would be crochet. I don't often have a chance to do these things, but I try my best to make time. I'm not very much of a movie watcher, but if I am going to watch a movie I like it to be historical such as The Help, Hacksaw Ridge, Saving Mr. Banks, Sully, etc. Lastly, I am a complete tea fanatic. Some of my favorites are Irish Breakfast, Earl Grey, chamomile, green, and peach tea.
